Exclusive Interview

We talk with folk/country artist Gary D Clark!

Where did you grow up? Born in Texas and raised mainly in Oklahoma.

You have an incredible ability to channel raw emotion into your performances. What do you draw upon when you’re on stage? Like most artist's I feel my songs, the lyrics and the melodies. So, I just take a journey with the song.

Who were some of your musical influences growing up, and how have they shaped your career? Mac Davis, Roger Miller, Jim Stafford, Eagles, Bob Seger.

You’re known for your guitar skills. When did you start playing, and how did you develop your signature style? Actually, that must be Gary Clark Jr. No relation unfortunately. My guitar skills don't even come close to his abilities.

In your opinion, what role does social media play in promoting your music and connecting with fans? I do not promote my music like I should, I am still working a full time business that I own. So, it is limited to Reverbnation and the occasional upload to Facebook.

Throughout your career, what has been your most memorable performance or moment on stage? My stage primarily is my music studio.

If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why? Mac Davis! Such a gifted songwriter. Every song of his is a story, and that's what my music tends to be.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians trying to carve their path in the industry today? Don't listen to the "experts" play the music that touches you.

What can fans expect from you in the coming year? More songs released on all the main platforms including Hardcoremix!
